Pruning Essentials - Spring 2026
Duration: 1/2 Day (3 - 4 hours)
Overview: This practical workshop is designed to provide participants a practical introduction to pruning techniques. Attendees will gain insights into pruning various fruit-bearing trees, bushes, and cane fruit towards healthy growth and increased yields.
Workshop Objectives: Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Understand basic pruning requirements and timings for a variety of fruit-bearing trees, bushes, and cane fruit, including apple, pear, plum, black currants, haskaps, gooseberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
2. Apply different training methods such as central leader, open canopy, and trellising to optimize tree structure and fruit production.
3. Implement heading and thinning cuts effectively in the context of general tree pruning.
4. Recognize disease-related issues in fruit trees and learn how and when to prune for disease management.
5. Understand pruning as a resource for propagation and learn practical propagation methods for berry bushes.
