Having grown a lot of food using row cover over many years, we can attest to the awesome season extension and yield benefits it brings.  In our climate it is one of the best tools you can add to your aresenal.
 
We have selected lengths and hoop counts based on our own experience, namely with wind which is the biggest consideration when using row cover here.  We chose 35 ft and 15/30 hoops as that can either be easily deployed as a single long bed cover, or three (3) raised beds or anything in between.  
 
The standard kit is 35 ft and 15 hoops and will be appropriate for most scenarios.  We recommend the deluxe (double hoops) in high wind and very open areas, especially when growing very large leafy plants.  The reasons are (i) It is more rigid and less likely to be destroyed by the wind and (ii) If the plant grows into the row cover itself it will be less likely to be battered and damaged.
 
The products we have selected are (i) Row Cover - Novagryl 19 which is composed of 3 superimposed layers of non woven fibres and is perfectly uniform. It provides the best thermal effect in the world for a crop protection against cold weather, (ii) 62" galvanized steel wire hoops - having trialed a number of hoops over the years (from home made to fibreglass), this is easily the best long-term option.  In fact with a little care and attention the row cover as well as the hoops can be re-used over and over, season to season.
